Just call me "Fertile Mertle..."

Ok, so in reference to the previous post...yes big sisters do ROCK and yes, Mae will be one come 9/14/09... So that makes me just over two months along. I was going to wait a bit to make the big announcement to everyone, but Coby pasted the pic of Mae on his facebook, so I figured it was as good as out of the bag now. I'm sure your suprisedness (ok, so I might have just made up that word) is nothing compared to the SHOCK me and Coby experienced when we found out (as this was a VERY unplanned thing) and once the initial JOLT set in, we are very excited to welcome this new little one into our family!

When we went into the doctor, we were in for an even bigger surprise. After a 30 second ultrasound (seriously) my doctor showed us the baby and yolk sac, as well as a SECOND yolk sac. He said that we had originally had twins, but he could not see the other baby so we had probably (do I really want to hear probably right now? I don't think so!) lost one. It is called "Vanishing Twin Syndrome" where for some reason one baby doesn't make it and is reabsored. And that was it...No rescheduled ultrasound to make sure, no nothing...he sent us on our merry way. Well, after a couple days full of a whirlwind of emotions, thanks to my friends at radiology for squeezing me in, a second ultrasound confirmed that we had really lost one baby. I have had A LOT of mixed emotions about the whole thing, excitement over a new baby, a little bit of relief (if I truly am honest with myself), but also sadness over the loss of one of our babies. I just have to trust that things happen the way they are supposed to and be grateful and thankful that we have one healthy baby on the way. Just thought you'd like to take a look at the CRAZY ultrasound and our little bean...(I labeled it for you because those things are IMPOSSIBLE to read!)
Don't you think from the last post that Mae just looks SOOOO excited to be a big sister! She will be the best one EVER!!!

That happened to me too. When I was pregnant with Bekah, I didn't go in for my first appointment until I was 3 months because we were in the middle of an insurance change. When the doctor did my ultrasound he said there was a second sack but no baby. He said it was possible that the baby never even developed at all, but he couldn't be sure because I waited too long to go in. I went through all the same emotions as you, so I can definitely say that I understand what you're going through there. So many congrats on the sweet little bean that is still in there though! I'm so excited for you!

WOW! That is so exciting. How close together will they be? I'm guessing a second girl :) I think I'm feeling the same emotions for you right now too: relief of only one baby but sadness that you lost one. So crazy!

I was in total shock when I found out I was preg with Brennen. I didn't even acknowledge the fact until I was five months along. Anyway, it was the best thing ever because now Katelyn and Brennen are the best of friends. I wouldn't have it any other way. Congratulations!!!!!!!!! It is going to be great to have another little cousin.
